Prepared in accordance with CAA-Oman circular published on March 30, 2023.

On View of confirmed outbreaks of Marburg virus disease (MVD) in the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. The Civil Aviation Authority and in coordination with the Medical Response and Public Health Sector had advised the following as information to passengers departing and arriving in to the Sultanate of Oman from the affected countries.

 

  • Travelers should postpone travel to countries affected by the Marburg virus disease unless necessary.
  • Passengers travelling to the countries affected by Marburg virus disease for any urgent reasons should take the following precautions:
    1. Avoid contact with patients with symptoms such as fever, muscle aches and rashes, and avoid visiting disease-endemic areas in those countries.
    2. Avoid contact with blood and any body fluids of other people.
    3. Avoid visiting caves and mines where bats live and avoid touching them.
    4. Avoid contact with animals such as chimpanzees and gorillas.
  • Passengers arriving from endemic countries should isolate themselves from others and advised go to the nearest health institution, and inform the doctor of traveling to a country affected by Marburg virus disease, when the following symptoms appear:
    1. Fever
    2. Chills
    3. Muscle pain
    4. Rash
    5. Sore throat
    6. Diarrhea
    7. Weakness
    8. Vomiting
    9. Stomach pain
    10. Unexplained bleeding from anywhere on the body, or bruising during or after travel up to 21 days.
