Oman Air Toasts Success at Cellars in the Sky Awards

Date: 04 Feb 2011

Oman Air is celebrating its success after the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman won second prize in the Best First Class Red Wine category of the Business Traveller Cellars in the Sky Awards 2010.

The award, presented at a ceremony held last night at the Thistle Kensington Gardens Hotel in London, recognises the outstanding quality of the 1998 Chateau Grand Mayne Saint-Emilion Grand Cru served by Oman Air to its First Class customers.

Oman Air's Chief Executive Officer, Peter Hill, welcomed the award, saying:

"We are delighted that our First Class red wine has been recognised by the Cellars in the Sky Awards. The Chateau Grand Mayne Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 1998 is a superb wine which is a key element of our excellent inflight wine list and perfectly complements Oman Air's exclusive First Class service.

"We have taken great care to ensure that all the wines we offer - in First, Business and Economy classes - provide an ideal accompaniment to the Oman Air inflight dining experience. This award, and the excellent customer feedback we have received, demonstrates that we are making the right choices and we look forward to offering more exciting and, most importantly, delicious wines on our lists in the months to come."

The Cellars in the Sky Awards are run annually by Business Traveller magazine and this year was the first in which Oman Air has entered. Thirty five airlines submitted applications and five, including Oman Air, were shortlisted in the Best First Class Red Wine category.

The award comes in the same week as Oman Air's First Class amenity kits won awards in the TravelPlus Airline Amenity Bag Awards, where the airline picked up the Gold Award for First Class Female Amenity Bag and the Silver Award for First Class Male Amenity bag. Oman Air also received the Gold Award for Inflight Amenity, in recognition of its pioneering of inflight mobile phone and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Peter Hill concluded:

"Oman Air's transformation, over little more than a year, has seen us firmly established as a boutique luxury airline and the awards that our premium products and services have attracted underline our commitment to offering comfort, luxury and the ultimate in Omani hospitality for all our customers. This Cellars in the Sky Award reflects the dedication of our catering and onboard teams and I would like to thank them for their great work in ensuring that Oman Air's customers experience the very best that air travel has to offer."
