Date: 30 Sep 2013
Wings of Oman

The October issue of ‘Wings of Oman’, the in-flight magazine of Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, has a lot in store for its myriad readers.

The ‘It’s Oman’ section highlights the achievements of Raiya Al Habsi, the first Arab woman to compete in Britain’s world famous 611 mile offshore Fastnet Race. As one of the pioneering sponsors of Oman Sail since 2008, Oman Air has shared in many of the successes this national initiative has achieved. This was yet another key highlight of the partnership when Raiya Al Habsi, with arms stretched out against the soaring sails of Oman’s flagship MOD70 Oman Air-Musandam, emerged victorious in the 2013 Rolex Fastnet Race. The race’s MOCRA multihull class featured some of the biggest, fastest and most radical yachts on the planet.

The issue’s ‘International Destination’ focuses on the cities of Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Chennai, the seat of Dravidian arts and culture, is also a major auto hub of Asia, producing two cars every minute, earning it the nickname ‘Detroit of India’. Bangalore, the ‘Garden City of India, has more than 1,000 high-tech companies, including IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco Systems, Infosys Technologies and Wipro Technologies. The city of Hyderabad has over 150 lakes and 900 water tanks. It is often referred to as the ‘City of Pearls’, the ‘City of Nawabs’, the ‘Biryani City’ and because of its high-tech draw, as also ‘Cyberabad’.

The ‘Business’ article shows how people can work their way to a healthy life. People can safeguard themselves from heart conditions, high blood pressure, chronic body pains, insomnia, and many other such physical ailments which have become an inseparable part of the urban professional’s lifestyle.

The ‘Health & Beauty’ section looks at the benefits of Ozone Therapy which is fast becoming one of the most useful tools employed in medical clinics around the world, to tackle a host of ailments. It purports to increase the amount of oxygen in the human body through the infusion of ozone into the body.

The Wings of Oman issue also covers the major sports happenings in October such as the National Bank of Oman Golf Classic 2013, the first European Challenge Tour golf event in the GCC right here in Muscat in its ‘Sports’ section, as well as the major festivals around the world such as the London Film Festival and Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris, in its ‘Festivals’ page.

Wings of Oman also takes its readers on a ‘World Tour’ of antiquated and quaint markets such as Muttrah Souq in Muscat and Tehran Grand Bazaar in Iran. Major world events such as the Illuminated Boat Procession in Thailand and Jazznojazz are also covered in the ‘Event Horizon’ page. ‘Fashions & Trends’ looks at the perfect alternative to pure diamonds. ‘Book Reviews’ and the ‘Time Out’ section make for light leisure reading.

The ‘World View’ section has interesting tidbits of information such as people standing on the metallic footbridge of Le Pont Des Arts in Paris, France, putting their initials or messages of love on the love padlocks, before tossing the key into the waters of the River Seine below.
