Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, has been nominated for one of the UK travel industry’s most prestigious awards.
The airline has been shortlisted for the Airline of the Year prize in the TTG Travel Awards, run by the industry’s leading trade newspaper, Travel Trade Gazette.
Oman Air’s nomination follows a year in which the airline has introduced new airbus A330 aircraft to its fleet, each with spacious and luxurious interiors and state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment. It has also been the first airline in the world to offer passengers full mobile phone and Wi-Fi connectivity simultaneously onboard its widebody aircraft.
Oman Air’s CEO, Peter Hill, said:
“We are extremely proud to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. We have worked hard to ensure that Oman Air is synonymous with distinctive comfort, luxury and the very best that air travel has to offer. Over the coming months we will be unveiling further new routes, services and technologies which will add even greater value to the Oman Air travel experience.”
Daniel Pearce, editor of TTG, said:
“Faced with ash cloud, airline strikes and global recession, the UK’s best travel companies have really proven their worth, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the strength of this year’s entries. Our unique combination of voting by travel agents and judging by industry experts makes a TTG Award the real hallmark of excellence within travel. We congratulate all those who’ve made it onto our hotly-contested shortlist.”
Judges for the awards include experts from leading travel companies and trade bodies such as Thomas Cook, Sandals and the Institute of Travel and Tourism, as well as leading figures from the worlds of commerce and retail.
This year’s winners will be announced at a spectacular ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 23rd September 2010.
