First Trainees Graduate Following Oman Air's CIEH Food Safety Accreditatione

Oman Air Catering Services - A Registered CIEH Food Safety Training Centre

The first trainees to complete the food safety course following Oman Air's accreditation by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) as a Food Safety Training Centre, have just graduated at Muscat International Airport.

The course – offered at Levels 01 and 02 - further enhances staff awareness of the importance of food safety within the production kitchens of Oman Air.

Twenty seven trainees successfully completed the course following its launch in 2010 by Oman Air's Catering Unit. The course offers an internationally-recognised food safety curriculum which has been especially designed to meet Oman Air's operational requirements and underscore the airline's commitment to service, quality and the improvement of the skills and knowledge of its staff.

The driving force behind the initiative is Oman Air's Quality Assurance Manager, Ms Tawhida Al Kindy, whose work was praised by General Manager, Catering, Mr Aaron Claxton. He said:

"Tawhida Al Kindy and her team have achieved incredible results in a very short space of time. We have major plans throughout 2011 to enhance our profile and to build our portfolio of business clients. Staff development and morale, and the nurturing of new talents, are key elements of this programme and the ongoing commitment of the Catering Unit's management team to achieving these aims is extremely pleasing."

The course is run by two certified trainers, each of whom is an expert in the field of food safety management. The curriculum has been designed to be delivered as operational requirements allow, ensuring greater flexibility and no losses in terms of operational man-hours. Oman Air aims to have all its food handlers undergo the certification course and to eventually expand its services by offering the course to the public.

The launch of Oman Air's CIEH-accredited course follows the award to the airline's Catering Business Unit of certification in Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), a Food Safety Management System ISO 22000 - the first airline caterer within the Gulf Region and the wider Middle East to receive this prestigious certification.
