A novel coronavirus is a new coronavirus that has not been previously identified. The virus causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), is not the same as the coronaviruses that commonly circulate among humans and cause mild illness, like the common cold
On 11 February 2020 the World Health Organization announced an official name for the disease that is causing the 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak, first identified in Wuhan, China. The new name of this disease is coronavirus disease 2019, abbreviated as COVID-19. In COVID-19, ‘CO’ stands for ‘corona,’ ‘VI’ for ‘virus,’ and ‘D’ for disease. Formerly, this disease was referred to as “2019 novel coronavirus” or “2019-nCoV”. There are many types of human coronaviruses including some that commonly cause mild upper-respiratory tract illnesses. COVID-19 is a new disease, caused by a novel (or new) coronavirus that has not previously been seen in humans.
The virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly from person to person, mainly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. These droplets can land in the mouth or nose of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Spread is more likely when people are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet). COVID-19 seems to be spreading easily and sustainably in the community (“community spread”) in many affected geographic areas. Community spread means people have been infected with the virus in an area, including some who are not sure how or where they became infected
Symptoms include coughing, fever, and shortness of breath, vomiting and diarrhea

To reduce the risk of and prevent Coronavirus infection:

  • Avoid direct contact with anyone with symptoms of a cold or respiratory infection
  • Cover nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing with tissue or flexed elbow
  • Regularly wash your hands with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Avoid hand shakes
  • Avoid consumption of raw or under-cooked animal products, including milk and meat.
       Make sure that animal products are well cooked before consumption
  • Avoid touching your nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoid crowded areas
  • Wear face mask while in public or as per instruction from government
  • Respiratory masks type N95 are recommended for exposed healthcare workers and
       individuals in close contact with confirmed or suspected cases.
  • If symptomatic, stop performing work duties immediately and contact nearest health
    care facility and do not resume duties until cleared by the medical authorities.
If you have come into contact with someone who has COVID-19 and or are feeling unwell you should stay at home if you have the following symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing) then you should seek medical attention and follow the directions of your health authority.

AIR TRAVEL

No; those individuals are not allowed to travel.

  • PCR testing is not mandatory for all passengers travelling out of MCT.
  • Symptomatic passengers shall be subject to undergo a PCR test.
  • Passengers travelling to destinations which require a PCR test report must carry a copy of their test result.


PASSENGER

Aircraft operators should inform their passengers that they have to come to the airport not less than 3 hours and not more than 4 hours before the time of the flight.
In order to reduce the number of people in the terminal, and consequently facilitate physical distancing, access to the terminal is restricted to passengers only.
The airport terminal access shall be restricted to workers, travelers and persons accompanying passengers with disabilities, with reduced mobility or unaccompanied minors in an initial phase, as long as it does not create crowds and queues which would then increase risks of transmission as well as create a potential security vulnerability.

It is recommended to subject departing passengers entering the terminal to get their temperature checks done immediately after entering the airport premises.

  • The temperature check shall aim to identify passengers with skin temperature of 38°C or higher. For passengers with skin temperature 38°C or higher, temperature checks should be repeated at least once for confirmation purposes. Passengers with elevated skin temperature should be referred to secondary assessment by a health professional or follow the agreed protocol of screening.
The Airport Operator is responsible for conducting temperature checks for all passengers entering the airport premises.
The wearing of medical face masks is mandatory for all passengers and persons within the airport and aircraft, from the moment they enter the terminal building at the departure airport until they exit the terminal building at the destination airport.
Exemption to the obligation to wear face masks can be made for instances where otherwise specified, such as during security checks or border control. Children below the age of 6 and people having a documented medical reason for not wearing face masks can also be exempted.
Passengers should be reminded that typically, face masks should be replaced after being worn for 4 hours, if not advised otherwise by the mask manufacturer, or when becoming wet or soiled, and that they should ensure they have a sufficient supply of masks for the entire duration of their journey.
Passengers should be reminded that physical distancing between individuals of minimum 1.5 meters should be maintained as much as is possible in the airport.
Airport operators and aircraft operators should include information regarding the proper use and removal of masks and the proper way to dispose of used masks, in their health safety promotion material. Additionally, airport operators should ensure masks can be acquired at airports, in case passengers do not have a sufficient supply of masks.
Smoking areas shall only be used by a maximum of 1 or 2 people, depending on the size of the smoking booth.

DEPARTURE

Yes, all departing passenger must complete a self-assessed Health Declaration form. Passengers shall receive information about COVID-19 symptoms and the risk of possible contact with COVID-19 cases and be requested to acknowledge reading this information and sign or electronically authenticate a health statement. This shall be achieved preferably prior to arrival at the airport but no longer than forty-eight (48) hours in advance of the flight.

There are no restrictions except an isolation area to be created in-flight. An isolation area is defined as leaving, if possible, two (2) rows of seats cleared in each direction around any passenger who is believed to be ill.
