Oman Air Sponsors The Muscat Half Marathon 2008

Oman Air, the Sultanate’s National carrier, sponsored the Muscat Half Marathon 2008 which took place in Muscat on Friday, 1st February, 2008. The Marathon took off amid great athletic participation that included various competitions like the 21km and 10km races, in addition to the 3km race for families and the physically challenged.
Commenting on this event, Corporate Communication & Media department stated that the National Carrier is always supportive of events that contribute to the global trend being witnessed currently in the arena of sports.The department added, that participation also provides an insight into the time and effort devoted by the Organizers to organize events of such magnitude that keeps the spirit of sports alive among sports enthusiasts.It also established recognition with Oman Athletes Association who are always in favor of facilitating young Omanis and sports. Keeping this in mind, Oman Air, in coordination with the various sports entities of the country, is in the stages of facilitating in formulating a plan that would assist in supporting Omani sports and teams participating in future international competitions.

In this regard, Captain Hamed Al Jabry, Vise President of Oman Athletes Association said that, this year the association invited international participants, and were pleased to have amid them the world sprinter and winner of two Olympic Gold medals as a Guest of Honor who presented the awards to the winners.
Al Jabry assured that this year's race witnessed considerable support by the government especially the Ministry of Sports, Muscat Municipality, ROP as well as major private sectors like Kelloggs, Bank Muscat and Oman Air who guaranteed a wide and cross dimensional exposure through its international flights to various local, regional and international destinations.
Al Jabry concluded saying, we are moving forward to develop the Muscat Half Marathon to achieve greater success. This reflects our keenness to organize more international events and competitions aimed at supporting athletics and various other sports in the Sultanate of Oman.
