Oman Air innovates IT team with Advanced J2EE technology

Oman Air has taken a new initiative in the area of IT Training, by bringing the eminent Java technology consultant Mr. Srinivasan from Vamsoft India, to enhance the in-house IT team “know-how”, on the latest J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) technology. Oman Air has been developing applications on J2EE for the last two years, and all new IT developments are being now, based on the open source architecture of Java and Linux. New procured systems from various solution providers such as Sabre, are also based on these technologies. The hottest Online Booking Engine is to be inaugurated in the near future, which has also been developed on the same J2EE platform.

Mr. Habib Bhacker Habib, Head of Information & Computing Said: “Oman Air has been developing its in-house applications on J2EE and has deployed on, the latest Oracle products like Oracle 10g Application Server, and Oracle Database. Oman Air intranet, with Online Duty Travel Management System, Employee Leave Management System and Help Desk System, are among the paramount attracted in-house J2EE applications”.

He also added: “Oman Air team is now equipped to employ the advanced features of J2EE including EJB (Enterprise Java Beans) through the consultancy and training accomplished by Mr. Srinivasan. The development team was also introduced to the latest add-on’s to J2EE, including Java Server Faces (JSF) and EJB 3.0 specs”.

Mr. P.K Imthiyas, Software Project Manager Said:  “Oman Air plans to employ these technologies in the forthcoming IT initiatives, especially in line with IATA’s StB (Simplify the Business) project. Oman Air is leading the StB project in the region being already implemented E-Ticketing. E-Ticketing is the first initiative in the five phased StB project. The Online Booking, as well as the rest of the other phases, will be utilizing the J2EE architecture wherever possible”.
